Model what the carrier charges, not only what the scale reads

Example

Ten cartons that each weigh 8 kg physically may still be billed at a higher weight if their dimensions produce a larger dimensional weight under the carrier divisor. The module compares the two values per carton and uses the larger as the planning chargeable weight.

Interpretation

The divisor is editable because carriers and services use different rules. Copy it from the actual quote or tariff, and remember that some services apply additional rounding or oversized-package rules after the basic calculation.

Boundary

Shipment grouping estimates how many dispatches are needed when only a fixed number of cartons travel together. It does not decide palletization, cushioning, edge protection or hazardous-material requirements.

Why this module exists

Production context around the calculation.

Chargeable weight may exceed scale weight

Dimensional-weight formulas can make a light, bulky shipment price as if it were heavier.

Carrier rules vary

The divisor and rounding method must be taken from the chosen carrier or provider.

Packing affects damage risk

The calculator covers geometry and weight, not cushioning, moisture, edge protection or stacking suitability.
