Common questions

How does the finder rank print sizes?+

It first groups formats by their result against the selected PPI target, then prefers less crop and finally the larger physical area when the other factors are equal.

Does the top result always mean the largest print?+

No. A smaller ratio-matched print can rank above a larger format when the larger option falls below the selected PPI target or removes more image area.

Why can two sizes have the same crop percentage?+

Physical sizes with the same aspect ratio remove the same proportion of the composition. For example, 4 × 6 and 12 × 18 are both 2:3, but the larger print has a lower effective PPI from the same file.

Does selecting an image upload it?+

No. The browser reads the image dimensions locally. Print Prep Lab does not receive or store the selected file.

Worked example

For a 3600 × 2400 px 3:2 image at a 300 PPI target, 4 × 6, 5 × 7 and 8 × 10 all meet the density target. The 4 × 6 keeps the full 3:2 frame; 8 × 10 reaches 300 effective PPI but crops about 16.7% of the image area.
