Split a Large Poster Across Printable Sheets

Plan a tiled poster across A-series, US or photo sheets using real printer margins, overlap, orientation and a target raster resolution.

Quick answer

Choose the finished poster size and the sheets your printer can handle. The calculator subtracts the non-printable margin, reuses the chosen overlap between adjacent tiles and reports the exact rows, columns, sheet count and source pixels needed.

Before printing: confirm the device's real imageable area, export one consistently scaled tiled file and disable Fit-to-page. Overhang is trimmed from the outer poster edges after assembly.

When to use this tool

Use it for a specific print decision.

  • Use it when a poster is larger than the maximum sheet accepted by a home, office or classroom printer.
  • Use it to compare portrait and landscape sheet use before committing paper, ink and assembly time.
  • Use it when a PDF poster option asks for tile scale, overlap and cut marks but does not explain the final sheet count.
How to use it

A result you can reproduce.

  1. Enter the finished poster dimensions and choose a physical unit.
  2. Select the actual sheet, orientation, non-printable margin and assembly overlap.
  3. Print every tile at 100% scale, trim the marked overlap edges and assemble against the complete preview.

Every result is calculated in the page from the displayed inputs. Your printer's written production specification remains the final authority.

Worked example

See the numbers in context.

A 600 × 900 mm poster on portrait A4 sheets with 5 mm non-printable margins and 10 mm overlap needs a 4 × 4 grid, or 16 sheets. At 150 PPI, the complete poster source should be about 3543 × 5315 px.
